Buy Low Candidates (Anaheim Ducks to Columbus Blue Jackets)
Most players go through slumps, even the stars of the league. Fantasy players are commodities whose value fluctuates with their play. Taking a chance on a slumping player before they re-emerge as a superstar can make your fantasy season. Here’s a short list of my buy low candidates:
Corey Perry: I penned him as a buy low candidate but his post all-star breaks play puts him near the top of fantasy land yet again. His latest outburst was a hat trick coupled with 11 shots on net. Last season, we saw him surge after the all star game eventually capturing the Hart and Rocket Richard Trophy.
(Update): Ever since my post, he’s had 8 points in 8 games with 2 game winners. The Duck are surging towards a playoff berth and Perry is a big part of this.
Ryan Getzlaf: As Perry regains his elite form, so will Getzlaf. It is not a coincident that he had 3 assists to 3 of Perry’s goals. The Ducks are surging right now with 15 of a possible 17 points.
(Update): I predicted that he would ride Perry back to legitimacy and he has with 6 assists in the past 8 games.
Eric Staal: Even if he is struggling to score, he’s still a great fantasy asset due to his elite faceoff skills and the fact that he is a volume shooter. He’s underperforming but trust me on this one, he will put up big numbers before the season is over.
(Update): He has 11 points in 6 games, including 2 shorthanded points.
Alex Tanguay: His reunion with Jokinen and Iginla will provide him with the familiarity to produce at a high level.
(Update): He has 7 points in 7 games. He’s still available in 11.1% of fantasy leagues.
Mike Cammalleri: His time in Montreal was a disaster but his trade to Flames will hopefully light his fire. He has extremely underperformed this season so you can probably get him for a bag of peanuts.
(Update): He has 5 points in 7 games but more importantly is that his production has come during crucial points in the game. He’s regaining his confidence and this should bode well to his fantasy value.
Rick Nash: He’s a gifted scorer who has been stuck on a perennially terrible Columbus team. Do whatever you can to get him on your team. There has to be a big part of him that wants out of Ohio so he’s likely to showcase his talents in the upcoming weeks by going on a scoring tear.
(Update): He has 6 points in 7 games while trying his hardest to show the hockey world that he is still an elite scoring forward. It must be tough when his team is pure garbage.
All of my buy low candidates have picked up their fantasy production. Keep on coming back for further fantasy advice.
