Fantasy Hockey Pickups: 3/13-3/20
As a fantasy player I like to pick players right before they get hot or when they are starting to heat up (more often that not). Pick ups generally only stay on my team for 3 games so I never pick up a player hoping they break out of a slump during my pickup.
Jamie McGinn (Owned in 2.8% of ESPN Fantasy Hockey Leagues): Ever since his trade from the Sharks, McGinn has been on fire. In his first eight games he has 9 points. He started out playing on the second line with Landeskog but has been bumped up to play with Paul Stastny and David Jones. Some guys just need the chance to succeed and he is certainly one of them.
Matt Stajan (Owned in 2.0% of ESPN Fantasy Hockey Leagues): Due to injuries and offensive struggles, Stajan was brought in to center Iginla and Tanguay. He has 10 points in his last 11 games. The Flames have been playing well with him as their #1 center so he’s a pretty good pick up right now.
Tyler Ennis (Owned in 19.5% of ESPN Fantasy Hockey Leagues): He’s been on my pickup list for two weeks in a row and he has not disappointed. While Buffalo is battling for a playoff spot, Ennis, Stafford and Foligno are heating up.
Carl Hagelin (Owned 17.6% of ESPN Fantasy Hockey Leagues): He has 9 points in 9 games while playing on the top line of one of the best teams in the leagues. The rookie is already one of the fastest skaters in the NHL and possesses some great handles. He should be picked up immediately.
Marcus Foligno (Owned in 0.2% of ESPN Fantasy Hockey Leagues): He has 4 points in 3 games while playing with Tyler Ennis and Drew Stafford. Expect him to get some points and hits as he works to stick with the big club.
Streakiest Fantasy Hockey Players
Streakiest Fantasy Hockey Players
These are the fantasy players that can frustrate owners to no end. They produce points in bunches and then go cold. In head to head leagues, it’s all about how you do on a weekly basis so monitoring these streaky players (light switches) can be a valuable thing. When I think of a streaky NHL player, I think of Clarke MacArthur. He’ll be a jobber for half a dozen games then as you drop him he’ll string together points in 4 games. Let’s look at the recent production of some of the streakiest fantasy hockey players.
